Universal Pre-K

Universal Pre-K (UPK) Program

2026–2027 School Year

About Our UPK Program

The Universal Pre-K (UPK) program provides eligible four-year-old children with a high-quality early learning experience designed to support social, emotional, and academic growth. Our program helps prepare students for a successful transition into kindergarten.

UPK is a free, full-day preschool program faded by the New York State. It’s designed to help children grow socially, emotionally, and academically before they enter kindergarten. The goal is to serve as many children and families as possible.

Information for Families

  • An informational session will be held for parents and guardians to learn more about the UPK program, expectations, and meet their teacher in the summer.

Application Process

The district follows New York State UPK regulation to complete the preschool selection process.  This includes

  • Application submission
  • Lottery selection (if needed)
  • Family notification
  • Enrollment and placement steps

UPK applications will be mailed to families of eligible four-year-old children using district census information.

Applications will also be available on the district website.

If you are unsure whether your child is registered with the district, please contact the District Registrar for assistance, Laurie West.

Application Requirements

Completed applications must include:

  • 4 years old before December 1 (birth certificate)
  • Proof of residency
  • Current immunization (vaccine) records

Only complete applications will be considered.

Lottery Process

If the number of applications exceeds available openings, a lottery will be conducted.

  • Names will be randomly selected by district administration
  • The lottery will be conducted in the presence of staff
  • UPK placements will be assigned based on lottery results

Late Applications

Applications received after the deadline cannot be included in the lottery.
However, late applicants may be placed on a waitlist if space becomes available.

Notification

Families will be notified of their child’s acceptance or waitlist status following the lottery process.
