K-4 2007-2008 THEME
"RECIPE FOR SUCCESS"

The new theme for the K-4 2007-2008 school year is "Recipe for Success" at JCS. The logo for our theme includes this recipe for a successful school year: 1 cup of Reading and Math, 1/2 cup of Math, Science, and Social Studies, 5 tablespoons of Spelling, 3 ounces each of Studying and Hard Work, 3 teaspoons of Responsibility, 1/2 teaspoon of Kindness to Others.

Our theme will center on recipes that lead to success in many areas of our curriculum. New for grades 3 and 4, there will be a posted Principal's High Honor Roll and Honor Roll for each quarter. Students can achieve high honor roll by having a 93% or higher average in core subjects. Honor roll status will be achieved with an 85% or higher average. Mrs. Allard will also acknowledge students with consistently good attendance, those out on average only one or less days per quarter.

Within our theme, students can also earn rewards such as bookmarks, rulers, zipper pouches, and compasses for reaching reading benchmarks. The K-4 school wide reading goal is again this year 7,500 books. Last June students got to toss water balloons at Mrs. Allard for reaching this goal. Who knows what the students will dream up this year if the goal is reached?

Assemblies will again be held on the first Tuesday of each month to recognize student achievement and reward good character. We encourage students to wear their theme T-shirts on those days.

So, K-4 students, be ready to "Get Cooking!" It sounds like a fun and challenging year.
